Firstly, Eid Mubarak to everyone! I hope you had/have a wonderful day!
A few days ago, Hijab Style turned one year old! I started this blog primarily to be a resource for UK Muslimahs, from finding Islamic clothing stores, or hijab-friendly high street clothing, to guides to different hijab wraps. I also aimed to inspire and inform, and I hope that I've acheived that. Taking a look at the archives from September and October 2007, I'd like to think the blog has improved, though I'll let the readers decide! I've tried to move away from the 'oohh here's a pretty random picture' type posts which I see occuring a lot, because I'd rather post a useful and resourceful post once a week, than once every day with little real content. I've found that it's quality over quantity that most readers value. You'll also notice that on the right-hand side bar I've added a 'Latest Finds' element. You can click on the picture to buy the item online - this is because with the academic year about to kick in, I won't always have time to put together whole outfits.
Another thing I also think about carefully, is the clothing I post in my outfit sets. There's little point in posting out-of-stock items or items from foreign shops which we can't get our hands on. And a lot of the time, these are items I've actually tried on myself, so I know how they fit and what they work with, and believe me there's few people who have more trouble finding well-fitting clothes than I do! This is because I don't want to loose the true purpose of the blog - which was to help find stylish yet hijab-appropriate clothes for the average hijabi. I find nothing creative about skinny jeans and corset tops layered over long-sleeve tees, rather what truly takes imagination is finding clothes that look good and still fulfill requirements of hijab to the best of our understanding.
One of the highlights of the past year was definitely being interviewed for the Guardian newspaper, and if you missed it the first time round you can read the article here. And keep an eye out for another little surprise in a few weeks time! This week, I've got lots of Autumn outfit ideas, whether you are an abaya, maxi dress, skirt or tunic girl, so stay tuned.
