Fashion Matters - Fashion and FaithFriday 22nd May 2009, 19.00-20.30
V&A
Some of you may remember I took part in the last Fashion Matters where I was on a panel discussing
Fashion and the Internet back in March. The next installment in the series looks at how fashion increasingly plays a part in the expression of faith identities:
Religious dress inspires fashion design and religiously motivated women find it increasingly easy to meld fashion with faith. Yet, in debates about citizenship and belonging, it is often the expression of faith through dress that provides the flash point – whether Muslim women in hijab or Christians wearing crosses. James Welch, legal director of Liberty, Emma Tarlo of Goldsmiths College and Reina Lewis debate the contradictions inherent in these positions.Tickets are £8/6 and can be purchased
here.
I don't think I will be able to attend, however if any readers will be going, I am looking for someone to report back for Hijab Style. Drop me an e-mail if you are interested.
