Square hijabs have become very popular over the past few years thanks to Turkish fashion and in particular brands such as
Tekbir and
Setrms. A variety of colours and prints are now available in luxurious silks; these hijabs can be styled in different ways to create an elegant and stylish finish to an outfit.
It was interesting to see the popularity of printed scarves on a mainstream level, as many designers accessorised their collections with scarves on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2012. This simple accessory with multiple uses was illustrated from head to toe in less obvious ways by several designers. Here are a few examples to sum up this up and coming trend...
Hermes and Rochas went for the traditional headscarf look…
Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs went for a twist it and knot it headband look…
Carolina Herrera went for a classy neck scarf style…
Whereas D&G had the most shocking ideas by creating wearable garments and shoes from printed silk scarves. Im loving their innovative take on this traditional look; one of my favourite pieces from their Spring 2012 collection is this maxi dress (see below) that appears to be crafted from several scarves put together...with a simple blazer and plain hijab this unique look will be complete.
It is nice to see well known fashion brands acknowledging headscarves in elegant and stylish ways. Why not show off your creative side by illustrating what you can do with a square piece of material…
