A curfew was enforced Sunday in Myanmar as violence escalated between local Buddhists and Bengali Muslims.
The Rakhine state capital of Sittwe and three other townships were under a 6:00pm to 6:00am curfew after riots broke out following a June 3 lynching of 10 Muslims by 300 Buddhists.
The violence is localized to the western state of Rakhine. The curfew was imposed to help stem the violence before it spread to other areas.
The lynch mob formed in response to a rape and murder of a Buddhist girl allegedly by Muslim men.
