A New Jersey woman filed a complaint against a shopping mall after a security officer tried to remove her face veil.
Wakeelah Salaam has chosen to wear the niqab, or face veil. While shopping at Bridgewater Commons, a security officer asked her to remove her veil, then got close to her like he was going to remove the veil himself.
“I felt threatened, like I couldn’t walk and shop in the mall without this man asking me to take off my niqab,”
she said.
An executive from Bridgewater Commons issued an apology, and explained the officer had been placed into diversity training.
