Washington, D.C. area schools are considering closing for Muslim holidays — but despite the growing population of Muslims in the area, closing may not be simple.
Schools cannot close for holidays no matter how large a population is. Instead they must make the argument that absences due to religious holidays are disruptive, and then the days can be declared. Otherwise it is considered showing preference to one religion over another.
Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr would be considered for closing.
